Call me a waaaaambulance

December 2, 2025 - 13:51 -- Admin

It was a revelation being at home with Jane through Covid. The first couple of weeks she worked from the second desk in my office, where I’m typing this right now. I quickly gained an appreciation for her ferocious work ethic, but also for how she had to deploy it in the face of constant demands on her focus from other people in her work life.

Eventually we moved her into a spare room and after that of course, she returned to her office in the world of the real things.

I retained my appreciation for just how lucky I was to work in my own space, by myself. And let me tell you, I’m feeling that right now.

The disruption continues. There’s a guy on the roof again today, re-installing the skylights they removed during the building work. That involves cut through steel so you can imagine what that sounds like. There’s two guys in the room directly above, doing more building work. Yesterday fell hostage to more of the same, and in the afternoon I had to drive Thomas and myself to the dentist.

So not much work.

And more of this to come through the week. I am seriously fucking struggling to make headway on this book. It’s super frustrating. I powered through the first 60K words, but I’ve been floundering for nearly six weeks now. I’m so fucking close to finishing, but I can’t get a week in which I put together five good writing days.

Anyway, that’s my whinge.

Imma go back to listening to the construction noise now.
