The Morrison Equation

A certain G. Dixon has said: “Scott Morrison couldn’t lead a dog on a leash. He’s a follower. He waits for someone else to do and say something, and if it looks like it might be a goer, he rides on their coat tails; then he calls press conferences to big note himself and take the credit”1. This was exemplified by his barging in to front the media when the Australian Federal Police with other organisations in Operation Ironside made a huge drug bust2. In addition to claiming others’ successes as his, Scott Morrison has a habit of disappearing when things get difficult, or when he may be concerned that those in the media (those up to the task, at least) could ask him difficult questions regarding some of his lies or the favourable spin he always tries to impart on any news.

While many of his absences have been noted, from the time he shot through to Hawaii when large parts of the nation were in flames, with houses joining the millions of hectares of bush, billions of wildlife and quite a few people going up in flames. This was made even more appalling by his office exacerbating the PR disaster by lying about where he was at the time3. This trip to Hawaii was his third holiday in 20194.

Morrison shot through to Japan in late 20205, a week after making headlines by talking over the top of Anne Ruston6, when the question from a journalist was directed at her. It also coincided with the release of the video and reports into the behaviour of Australian troops in Afghanistan4.

When the nationwide March 4 Justice in early 2021, in part caused by the denials of knowledge of the rape of Brittany Higgins, Morrison shot through for another holiday, after one in December 2020, and another in January, 20214. Even when he was In the UK to observe the G7, he squeezed in a holiday (at our expense) to chase up some family history. It seems that whenever things get difficult, Morrison buggers off. This has led someone to come up with the Morrison Equation (no, not the fluid dynamics equation). This equation is as follows: Shit + Fan = Holiday.
