Evil criminal thinks police can't just do whatever they like to him

An Onymous Lefty - June 17, 2008 - 9:00pm

I saw this outrageous story in the Herald Sun (the state's number one newspaper!) today about "an evil rapist" suing the police for mistreatment:

Anthony James Pitt was jailed for 17 years in December 1999 for luring a Ballarat schoolgirl, 16, into an underground dungeon and repeatedly raping her over 19 hours in November 1998. Read more »

Derryn Hinch not in any way a complete idiot

An Onymous Lefty - June 3, 2008 - 1:13pm

Oh god - he's at it again.

POLICE are investigating whether radio personality Derryn Hinch should be charged with contempt of court after he publicly identified two sex offenders whose names have been suppressed by the County Court...

At a public rally on the steps of Parliament House in Melbourne on Sunday afternoon, Hinch told about 1000 people the name of a notorious serial pedophile who was released into the community after his parole period. Read more »

Bolt 11/12: "Pack-raped girl sacrificed to the “stolen generations” myth"

Bolt Watch - December 11, 2007 - 9:44am

My god he's shameless. Bolt uses the raped 10 year old story to push his line on the Stolen Generations, in a balanced and well-reasoned piece entitled "Pack-raped girl sacrificed to the “stolen generations” myth".

If she'd been "stolen" earlier, he argues, none of this would have happened. Therefore, well, it's good to take aboriginal children from their parents.

Unbelievable. (Wonder how much better Andrew would have turned out if he'd been stolen from his folks?) Read more »

Why do you hate victims?

An Onymous Lefty - June 4, 2008 - 4:39pm

I've been having an argument with my elitist, public-hating criminal-loving friend MrLefty, who (so that he doesn't notice it's him I'm attacking on his own blog) I'll henceforth refer to with the handy acronym CLELPOS* (he'll never figure that one out).

The argument's over an editorial in the recent Victorian Bar News on the subject of sentencing. Or, to put it in a far less boring way, in terms that interest me and are capable of prompting me to buy a newspaper for some satisfying outrage - WHY JUDGES AND LAWYERS DON'T CARE IF CRIMINALS HURT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. I do not want my outrage tempered by knowing the facts

The Blair/Bolt Watch Project - May 26, 2008 - 7:32pm

One of my particular hates is newspaper columnists (and other “journalists”) misrepresenting the punishments actually doled out by courts, thereby undermining (a) the general deterrence of the actual sentences and (b) efforts by judges to actually rehabilitate offenders so they’re less likely to offend when they’re eventually released - purely so said writers can indulge their readers’ carefully-nurtured ignorant view that courts are “soft”. (As studies have shown, when actually given the facts the general public tends to be no more severe than sentencing judges (usually less severe). Read more »
