EPIC gullibility

February 14, 2022 - 21:12 -- Admin

Apart from the viral or bacterial illnesses afflicting the Convoy to Canberra people out at the Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) campsite which I mentioned in a previous item1, there have been some hilarious rants coming out of EPIC. It almost goes without saying that some of these have been completely wacky conspiracies. They include the following:

Mandated irony

While I realise that it is unsavoury to mock the afflicted, it is difficult not to burst out laughing at the poor gullible buggers in the 2022 Convoy to Canberra, who received a Facebook post, presumably from one of the organisers. This post read:

“Hi beautiful EPIC tribe hears [sic] a quick update from your camp organisers about the kitchen situaton [sic].

Floored but unsurprised

Karen Middleton, in The Saturday Paper, has reported that Scott Morrison’s apology to abuse victims was not supposed to happen. He intended to leave it for the presiding officers instead1. The presiding officers comprise the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Andrew Wallace and the President of the Senate, Slade Brockman.

Murphy’s law

We were driving to Sydney to visit relatives today and when we were about half way there, we received a text message to say that people we had seen on Sunday had just done a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) prior to going to work after a few days off, and the result was positive for Covid-19. So we stopped in a parking area along the highway, dragged out the RATs to see if we had contracted this bastard virus. So there we were in a carpark sticking swabs up each other’s nostrils to do our RATs.

Down the dunny

Many years ago, I went to university some considerable distance away from my home, so I stayed in a university residential college. Until a few years before I arrived, this had been a female-only college. As a consequence, it had no male toilets (i.e. with urinals). Therefore, I could be having a sit and a think in a cubicle alongside another cubicle in which a woman was having a sit and a think. Surprisingly, this did not seem to be a problem for the people who ran the college.

Another lie from Joyce and Morrison

February 6, 2022 - 11:29 -- Admin

As part of the campaign to get rid of Morrison from the leadership of the Liberal Party after the diabolically bad Newspoll numbers, Barnaby Joyce’s text message to Brittany Higgin (via a third party) from March 2021, was leaked. At the time he sent the message, Joyce was a backbencher, not having yet unseated the previous incumbent, Michael McCormack.

Fear of being wrong

There is a story floating around which relates to the physicist, Albert Einstein, teaching a class. Whether it is true or not, I haven’t been able to determine. Given how many bogus quotes are attributed to Einstein, I’m sceptical of its veracity. However, the story goes like this.

Einstein is supposed to have written the following equations on a blackboard:

9 x 1 = 9

9 x 2 = 18

9 x 3 = 27

9 x 4 = 36

9 x 5 = 45

9 x 6 = 54

9 x 7 = 63

Too ignorant to realise how ignorant they are

I was having discussion about how vaccination makes people much less likely to get sick and die, and a bloke, again, jumped into a thread about deaths from vaccines (as is his wont)1, and asked if “you ppl source information anywhere other than your television?” I replied: “Yeah. Science, Nature, NEJM, The Lancet, New Scientist, ATAGI, TGA, NIH, CDC, ourworldindata, worldometers, assorted universities and other scientific organisations. Where do you get yours? Craig Kelly?

Earning respect

Many years ago, the daughter of a family friend started up with a boyfriend who I had not met. They eventually married and had children. One new year’s eve, my family was invited to the family friends’ house for a party. When we arrived, I was the first to get to the door so I knocked and the boyfriend was the one who opened the door. The first thing he said to me was ‘I don’t like your tie’. For someone in their early teens this was enough to demolish any limited self-confidence I had.
