I am getting tired of effete artistes trying to tell us we are dumb and that what they say is art should be art, and that we should fund them to offend our sensibilities and thumb their noses at public opinion just to give their fragile egos a stroke.
Yes: miffed that the majority of Australians don't think Bill Henson is one of our premier artists (a question for journos - in how many countries can Bill Henson sell his nude child pictures as art?) our little incestous arts community has now placed a naked six year old on the front cover of Art Monthly as some sort of statement of solidarity with Henson, and also feature his photos in this edition. The cover image is of a photographer's own daughter. That's how low they will stoop.
These people are so thick they don't understand that nudity is not the issue here, but children. Children who should be protected by their parents, not exploited for some political statement.
But then, as Henri de Lubac once said: the denser the ignorance, the more enlightened it thinks itself to be.
If both the federal and NSW government don't go through with their threats to withdraw funding from this bunch of leeches then don't expect me to think they are any more enlightened either.
