Well, at least we know what Alexander Downer was doing in our parliament all those years - training to be an advisor to corporate schemers wanting to know the best way to play governments and their ministers into giving them what they want.
I wonder if his advice will be dated by the fact that there's a new mob in Canberra, and they might be (might be) slightly less corrupt and easily fooled than Lexy's lot were. I hope for his family's sake that his successors are as gullible as he was...

Sinister Greedy & Corrupt here, we want to talk to you about the advice you gave us.

You told us they'd fall for that scheme!

Well, it worked on me all the time when I was a Minister. Seriously, I can't believe how many times I fell for it. What a goose! Ha ha.

It isn't? Seriously? But I thought...

We're not paying you to think, Downer, we're paying you to find us sneaky ways to get what we want out of the government departments you used to head. Stop assuming that your successor is as stupid as you and find us something we can use!

Why is everyone so rude to me?
Fortunately for Alex, his successors in the ALP probably will fall for the same sort of crap he did, so don't worry about his fortunes too much. He'll muddle through. He always does.
