Toombul bike ride

The Voice of Today's Apathetic Youth - July 20, 2008 - 7:17pm

Today Gam and I took our bikes in the back of the car to Toombul in order to go for a ride along one of the bike paths in the area. Getting there looked like it would take some time when our GPS decided there was no such place as Toombul in Brisbane. We parked at Toombul shopping centre- our concerns about leaving the car there while we went for a ride seemed to be validated by the presence of a pile of freshly broken auto glass that appeared sometime between the time we left and the time we got back. Its location suggested a burglary rather than a prang. Yikes.

Anyway, the ride itself was awesome. I only wished I had a camera strapped to my helmet, or some other device that meant I wouldn't need to stop every time I wanted to take a photo. The nuisance of stopping meant that we missed photographing a whole lot of beautiful scenery, so I'm going to try and think of a way to rectify this next time we go- and there definitely will be a next time. The area isn't at all hilly- we rode up a single steep hill to get to a lookout, but that was it. Even for a wuss and renowned whinger like me it was a cinch. With rain and cold weather forecast for tomorrow and the rest of the week, it was a great way to spend a warm, sunny winter's day. Although I probably should have remembered to wear sunscreen... I always forget in winter because I don't venture outdoors as much, so I've wound up with a pink nose!

The hideous Toombul shopping centre.

The airport control tower is visible in the background of this shot- we could see planes landing.

The next 8 photos were taken from a lookout:

Finally, some dinky little bananas I got at Mrs Flannery's on our way home.
