Revelation - Google will reveal IPs of blogspot users if you push them hard enough

An Onymous Lefty - May 11, 2008 - 11:13pm

I wrote a post earlier this afternoon with a bit of detail regarding the Liberal infighting over Ted Baillieu and his staff who hate him.

But I couldn't bring myself to upload it. Who cares? Sure, it's amusing to see gormless twits getting stuck into their leader because he's not extreme enough for them, but it's strangely more sad than titillating. Even when the white-anting takes on this bizarre tone* -

"So Ted, our message to you from here at hewhostandsfornothing is; take off the shawl and petticoat, flick off those high heels stilettos and try on your grandfather’s hat for size. Think big Teddy, think progress, think Liberal - or get lost."

What is it with tories and cross-dressing?

Anyway, take note. Apparently it IS possible for political organisations to get an IP out of Google, even when there's apparently no criminal offence committed. Their traditional "we'll reveal nothing" attitude appears to have softened - good news for the defamed, less good news for defamers.

Also, keep in mind that even after you make a blog invite-only, there are ways to access past posts.

Other than that, this story is a nothing.

*The blog is "invite-only" now, but if you add it to your RSS feed reader it remembers the last few entries before that happened.
