… than violent representations of women being murdered after being forced to have sex.
I don’t know if anyone’s seen the posters on bus stops for the new Grand Theft Auto game. Apparently in Chicago they’re being pulled because of concerns about recent shootings, which is weird as the posters don’t display any violence. But in Brisbane at any rate they’re all over the place. I’m not a gamer, but I was actually struck by them because the artwork and the depiction of the characters looked very reminiscent of A Scanner Darkly in style… which was a movie I really liked (as was the novel by Phillip K. Dick). But I’m going to illustrate that with one of the film images, because after what I’ve just read at Feministing, I don’t want to promote the game in any way whatsoever.
So this video is NSFW (not safe for work) and it is very disturbing. Trigger warning! But it is one of the trailers to the new Grand Theft Auto coming out today, and it is reprehensible. All around the country posters for the new GTA have been removed due to their offensive nature. Most of the complaints have been about the violence in the video game. Not one article has been about the blatant violence and misogyny displayed towards women.
