My dole diary

One Planet Mikey - May 9, 2008 - 3:21pm

This is my dole diary.  Some of this may be true.

07:00 Hit snooze

09:00 Berate myself for flushing the alarm clock down the toilet.  Fucking thing doesn’t work.  Must use neighbours loo.

09:01 Turn on Kath and Kim on Ten.  Can’t decide if David Reine is faking stupidity.

09:03 Put kettle on and make a large plunger of strong coffee.

09:05 Regret final drink, which even though I can’t remember drinking, now believe to be completely unnecessary. Read more »

A V(ery) Good Day

One Planet Mikey - April 7, 2008 - 3:54pm

The train, which took us from Flinders Street to the Showgrounds, was packed with excited punters.

I should know. I was one of them.   It was Melbourne’s first full V Festival after the Mini V, maxi-cost fiasco last year. And it was an event that I had been anticipating for quite some time.

Where else could you see Duran Duran, Air and Roisin Murphy all on the one bill, all on the one stage and all, one after another? Read more »

In the future when I have a phone again.

One Planet Mikey - March 11, 2008 - 1:44pm

I lost a part of myself on Sunday when I became permanently separated from my rather cute Sony Ericsson K610i mobile phone at the Future Music Festival here in Melbourne.

At the time I didn’t care because I was very excited to see John Digweed, and was almost in rapture at the thought of getting down and getting funky with the kids as I danced Mikey style, to the Chemical Brothers.  Read more »

It’s your ABC.

One Planet Mikey - January 30, 2008 - 4:46pm

ABC Television in Australia is going to replace the venerable Lissajous curve  logo, you know the worm-like thing that goes dah, dah, da - with this;

dad, dah, retro boring!

Eeek and egads!  That is bloody horrible, and boring.  Read more »

How the world turns. And quickly too.

One Planet Mikey - December 29, 2007 - 2:41pm

Twelve months ago I had no hope.  John Winston was firmly entrenched on the Prime Ministerial Chesterfield, David Hicks was locked in a cage, and George W. Bush was the president of the USA.  OK, I wasn’t wrong on the last part but, in the course of twelve months Australia got a new government, David Hicks was released and I got my grove back.

This is just a quick post, written in an internet Cafe in Brisbane, to wish my readers a Happy New Year and to say never give up hope.   The world turns quickly and so can we. Read more »

WTF Happend?

One Planet Mikey - April 23, 2008 - 5:03pm

Last week I told my ex-army boss and the Big Oil Company’s HR representative that I loathed my job, had started having panic attacks due to my department’s poor planning, and that I hated my job so much that I  would resign.  This was because I could no longer work under the chaotic, mis-managed conditions that I was expected to work in. A Viewty to a Thrill.

One Planet Mikey - March 20, 2008 - 4:24pm

The last two weeks have been hard.

I have had feckless and spotty youths asking me how old I was as I grooved to the Chemical Brothers.   Read more »

I am sorry too.

One Planet Mikey - February 13, 2008 - 1:38pm

I have been profoundly moved by today’s apology to the Stolen Generations.  This is because I am sorry too.

I cried as Kevin Rudd stood at the dispatch box on the floor of the House and uttered these words; Read more »

Dear Job,

One Planet Mikey - January 29, 2008 - 4:52pm

Despite having entered into a performance management plan to make you more interesting, and despite three written warnings about how you could improve; disappointingly - you have failed to live up to my reasonable expectations.

Namely - you are boring as fuck and you continue to struggle to provide meaningful content for me to do.  With this in mind, it is with regret that I have decided to let you go. Read more »

Marilyn is not quite dead, just homeless in Brisbane.

One Planet Mikey - January 4, 2008 - 4:38pm

When I was a little tacker growing up in Brisbane the late 70’s before it became Brisvegas; there were two young women who were dressed as Marilyn Monroe by their crone-like mother.  She took them shopping and the girls posed as if waiting for steam from a New York subway vent.  It was of course Indooroopilly Shoppingtown and it was rather ludicrous.

M1 and M2 became famous.  They appeared on the tele and in the newspaper and then they disappeared.  They were famous no more.  Read more »

TTFN!

One Planet Mikey - December 17, 2007 - 3:47pm

I am off to Queensland so ta ta for now.  I might write while I am away, but I am suffering a severe lack of rage and distemper now that Kevin07 has toppled the evil rodent.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.  Read more »
